Understanding Warren County Releases
A release from Warren County Correctional Center closes or changes one local custody episode. It does not always mean the person is free of every form of custody. A person may leave after posting bond, receiving a court order, serving the required time, or moving into an alternative program. Others leave because Corrections transfers them to the New Jersey Department of Corrections, another jail, federal authorities, or immigration custody. The local booking may show an exit in all of those cases, but only some are releases to the community.
Warren County assigns jail care and control to its Corrections Department and Board of County Commissioners. That split matters. The Sheriff maintains a separate courthouse-based records process, while county Public Information handles Corrections records. A released person normally falls off a current-custody display. Warren publishes no public jail roster, release archive, or recent-release feed, so the affirmative jail release entry is the sound local proof. State, court, VINE, and federal systems can corroborate it when they own the next part of the custody history.
Warren County Release Types
The wording on the jail entry, court order, or state result determines the next search. Bond and pretrial release end physical detention while the case continues. Time served means the court credited enough confinement to satisfy the custodial part of a sentence. Dismissal or acquittal can remove the criminal basis for custody, though a different hold may remain. Parole ends prison confinement under State Parole Board supervision, and probation is a court sentence usually served in the community. A transfer is continued custody, not a community release.
| Release entry | What it means | Where to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or pretrial release | The person leaves jail while the case continues. | Warren court file and jail release entry |
| Time served | The custodial part of the sentence is satisfied. | Judgment plus actual jail release |
| Probation | The court orders community supervision. | Warren Probation Division |
| Parole | Prison custody ends under Board supervision. | NJDOC history and State Parole Board |
| State, federal, or ICE transfer | One custodian closes its episode and another takes control. | Receiving agency’s locator or record |
- Discharge
- The formal end of a custody term or supervision obligation, depending on the record.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to take or retain custody.
- Time served
- A sentence satisfied in whole or part by time already spent confined.
- Expungement
- A court process that removes eligible case information from ordinary public Judiciary databases.
Warren County Release Record Fields
A useful Warren County release record ties the exit to one booking. Names alone are weak identifiers, so request the booking number, admission date, or other matching data when known. The strongest fields are the actual release date and time, release disposition, and receiving authority. A charge list explains the booking but does not prove how it ended. Likewise, a tentative date is a forecast and cannot replace the completed event.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Full name and aliases | The identity recorded for that episode |
| Booking or local identifier | The link between admission, charges, and exit |
| Admission date and time | When Warren custody began |
| Actual release date and time | When Warren custody ended |
| Release reason or disposition | Bond, court order, time served, transfer, or another outcome |
| Receiving agency | Whether custody continued with another authority |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to that booking, if releasable |
A court judgment can add the charge outcome, sentence, jail credit, and any probation or parole-ineligibility term. NJDOC uses a separate state identity, the SBI number, and its history may show the correctional facility, sentence dates, and Date Out-of-Custody. Keep each identifier with its system. A Warren booking number, SBI number, court complaint or indictment number, federal register number, and ICE A-number are not interchangeable.
Request Warren County Release Records
Corrections-held booking and release material goes through the Warren County Government Records request channel, not automatically to the Sheriff. Ask for an identifiable existing record. OPRA does not require an office to answer questions, analyze events, or create a new report. An exact name, date range, and booking identifier reduce the chance of a no-record or overbroad response.
- Identify the person, approximate booking date, and any booking or court number.
- Request the existing admission and release entry, actual exit date and time, disposition, and receiving agency if recorded.
- Select electronic delivery when suitable. The county form also offers pickup, mail, inspection, fax, and email.
- Keep the custodian’s response and any stated legal basis for a redaction or denial.
| Copy item | County form amount |
|---|---|
| Letter-size paper page | $0.05 |
| Legal-size paper page | $0.07 |
| Other media or delivery | Actual cost |
| Reproduction costs over $5 | A deposit may be requested |
The custodian is listed at Warren County Public Information, 165 County Route 519, Belvidere, NJ 07823, 908-475-6580, publicinfo@co.warren.nj.us. Ordinary complete OPRA requests are generally answered as soon as possible and no later than seven business days, though storage, extensions, exemptions, and special-service work can change that path. A Sheriff-created record uses the Sheriff’s separate OPRA process. Court documents use Judiciary access rules instead.
Warren County Release Record Limits
New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., governs executive-branch government records while preserving exemptions, privacy interests, and security rules. Corrections operational records go to the county custodian. NJDOC records follow the state process and N.J.A.C. 10A:22. Court files are governed by Judiciary rules, not the county OPRA form. Juvenile, confidential, sealed, and expunged material is not part of an ordinary public search.
Dismissal and expungement are different. A dismissal ends the charge, but New Jersey Courts states that the case remains public unless another rule applies. An expungement under N.J.S.A. 2C:52-1 et seq. removes eligible case information from public Judiciary databases and bars court staff from public disclosure. The New Jersey Courts expungement process explains that effect. A missing public result should be reported only as not found. Deliberately restricted material should not be reconstructed through unofficial sources.
The official court page illustrates the public-record effect of expungement.
That court process affects public case access, but it does not turn an old unofficial copy into a reliable current custody record.
Find Released Warren County Inmates
Begin with the agency that held the person. Warren County Correctional Center can answer current-status, tentative-date, and hold questions by phone, but historical proof requires the actual release entry. NJDOC covers people committed to state correctional custody. VINE reports events from participating county and state sources. Courts show legal outcomes, while BOP and ICE maintain separate federal systems.
- Match the person with a full name, alias, date information, and the identifier used by the likely custodian.
- Call Warren County Correctional Center for current local status and ask whether a stated date is tentative or completed.
- Search NJDOC when the court imposed a state sentence or the Warren record shows a state transfer.
- Check VINE and the court case for corroboration, then use BOP or ICE only when the record points to that custody system.
- Request the Warren release entry when no public source gives affirmative local proof.
Why did the person disappear from the jail search? A live custody view is built to show people still held. Removal may reflect release, transfer, a corrected identity, or a system update. Only a matched record that states the completed event confirms which occurred. For a near-term forecast rather than a past event, use the Warren County release date lookup and keep “projected” separate from “actual.”
NJDOC Warren County Release Search
The NJDOC Offender Search covers current and historic state correctional records, not every Warren arrest. Accept the official disclaimer, then search by SBI number or the available name fields. On a possible match, compare the full name, aliases, SBI number, age or birth details, and correctional history. The key completed-event field is Date Out-of-Custody. Current Max Release Date and Current Parole Eligibility Date are forward-looking calculations and do not establish that the person has left.
| Search or result field | Use |
|---|---|
| SBI number | Best state correctional identifier when known |
| First and last name | Broad search that requires identity checks |
| Aliases and identifying details | Separate same-name results |
| Current facility or status | Shows the NJDOC custody context |
| Date Out-of-Custody | Affirmative state custody exit for that period |
| Current Max Release Date | Changeable future maximum-date calculation |
The public search removes many records one year after the custodial term is complete. Community or Parole Supervision for Life records follow a different rule because the term may lack a completion date. Thus, a missing older result is not proof that no state incarceration occurred. Use a focused NJDOC OPRA request for an incarceration and release history if the web retention period has passed.
The official NJDOC search form and disclaimer show the available entry fields.
The screenshot reinforces why the SBI number and identity details should be kept with any release result.
Warren County Recent Release Gaps
Neither Warren Corrections nor the Warren County Sheriff publishes an official live jail roster, booking gallery, 24-hour release page, 72-hour release page, or release archive. There is no public feed URL, field set, refresh promise, photo flag, or archive window to quote. The Sheriff FAQ instead sends questions about charges, bail, arrest time, tentative release dates, and other-agency holds to Warren County Correctional Center at 908-475-7900.
For a same-day check, call the Center and ask whether the person is still held, has an unresolved hold, or has a completed release entry. For written proof, request the named person’s booking and release record. A request for an existing log over exact start and end timestamps may work if such a log exists, but OPRA does not require the county to build a custom list. The Warren County 24-hour release page sets out that local fallback without implying that a public feed exists.
Note: The NJDOC one-year web rule applies to state correctional records and is not a Warren County jail archive policy.
Warren County Release Supervision
Parole and probation use different agencies. Parole is State Parole Board supervision after release from a custodial sentence. Warren is served regionally by District Parole Office 1. Probation is a court-ordered sentence or condition managed through the New Jersey Judiciary, with the Warren office at the county courthouse. New Jersey provides no general public name search for probation clients, and the Parole Board does not publish a complete current person-by-person supervision database.
Verify parole through the State Parole Board using identifying information and the person’s state correctional history. Verify probation through the sentencing case, public judgment where available, or the Warren Probation Division when disclosure rules allow an answer. A parole eligibility notice is not proof of release. It can show that a person is approaching Board review, while an actual Date Out-of-Custody and Board confirmation establish a stronger chain.
Warren Release Alerts and Federal Records
New Jersey Enhanced VINE lets users search participating county and state custody records and register for offered event alerts. A release alert is useful corroboration, not a certified jail record. Read the agency, identity data, status, and last-updated context. “Transferred” means custody continued elsewhere, and a parole action may concern eligibility or a decision rather than physical departure. VINE does not replace the BOP or ICE locators.
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. A former prisoner may appear as “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” with a release date. That means only that BOP no longer holds the person. ICE’s detainee locator uses an A-number and country of birth or biographical information and may include a person released from ICE custody within a limited recent period. No source establishes a standing Warren jail contract with ICE or the U.S. Marshals Service, so use federal channels only when the individual record identifies federal custody.
Where Warren Release Records Remain
Each source answers a narrow question. Match the source to the custodian and date. A current-custody answer from the jail cannot replace a historic release record, while a court disposition may explain the legal outcome without recording the moment a person passed through the facility exit.
| System | Still in custody | After release |
|---|---|---|
| Warren Corrections | Phone confirmation of current local status and holds | Requested actual release entry and disposition |
| NJDOC | Current facility/status in state search | Date Out-of-Custody, subject to web retention |
| New Jersey Courts | Case orders may explain authority | Disposition, judgment, sentence, and credits |
| VINE | Participating agency status and alerts | Reported release event that should be verified |
| BOP or ICE | Separate federal custody context | BOP release result or limited ICE recent-release result |
Getting Home After Warren Release
Warren County Transportation operates public shuttle corridors and an eligibility-based demand-response program. The county does not say that either corridor stops at the Correctional Center, and it does not promise a ride at the time of release. A person arranging transportation should call 908-475-6331 before relying on a route. Ask about the nearest stop, eligibility, any reservation requirement, the operating day, and whether the planned trip aligns with the actual discharge time.
The published corridors include Phillipsburg to Washington service on weekdays and Saturday, plus Washington to Hackettstown service on weekdays. Schedules and a suggested trip amount appear in county transportation material, but they are general transit information rather than jail-release logistics. A tentative release time can also move because of processing or a hold. Confirm both the completed release and the ride plan.
Warren Weekend Custody Releases
Warren County’s Labor Assistance Program can allow a court-authorized participant to serve required straight-time days on weekends while remaining in the community during the rest of the week. Electronic monitoring is another alternative to traditional detention. These arrangements change how an observer should interpret a person’s presence outside the jail. A weekday absence from the facility does not, by itself, establish final discharge from the sentence or program.
Check the judgment, program status, and Corrections record before describing the custody outcome. A participant may have completed one weekend segment while still owing later reporting periods. Similarly, electronic monitoring can place a person in the community while legal custody or program conditions continue. The release record should state the relevant disposition, not a guess based on where the person was seen.
Documents After Warren State Release
For a person leaving NJDOC custody, the Office of Programming and Supportive Services describes a Fair Release and Reentry Act portfolio. It includes temporary release photo identification, final discharge paperwork, a final trust account statement, and a medical summary. When applicable, the portfolio may also contain identity documents, notice of warrants or detainers, transit tickets, referrals, and a supply of medication.
Those papers are held by the released person. They are not a public packet that a third party can demand from a county office. With the person’s cooperation, final discharge paperwork may help resolve a mismatch between an old web result and the completed event. Public verification still belongs with NJDOC, the State Parole Board, the court, or the custodian that created the relevant record.
Warren Release and Court Records
Warren separates jail records from Judiciary records. Corrections and County Public Information handle local operational material. The Warren Criminal Records Room handles public criminal court documents at the Warren County Courthouse, 413 Second Street, Belvidere, and can be reached at 908-475-6990. The New Jersey Courts criminal records-room information explains that court access follows Judiciary rules and forms.
Use PROMIS/Gavel or the criminal judgment search for an indictable matter, select Warren County, and compare the complaint, accusation, indictment, or SBI number. Read the disposition, sentence, jail credit, and any probation or parole-ineligibility term. Municipal complaints may require the municipal case tools or the named municipal court. A judgment can explain why release was authorized, but pair it with the jail exit entry when exact physical release matters.
Warren County Release Facility
Warren County Correctional Center is the county facility mapped for local releases. It opened in 1986, was designed for 76 beds, and reached a published operating capacity of 176 through internal renovation. The county describes a podular building with remote and direct supervision and an average daily adult population of 145 to 155. Those figures describe facility design and average custody, not annual admissions, releases, or a recent-release count.
NJDOC has no state institution identified within Warren County, though it receives people sentenced in Warren Superior Court. BOP likewise has no institution mapped in the county. Follow a state or federal transfer through the receiving system rather than treating it as a release to the Warren community.
